Why Fairtrade?

We love coffee and without those people who spend their days picking and packing the beans for us in the far flung corners of the world, we wouldn’t have it. We believe workers deserve to be paid fairly for the work they do.

State of Bean only sources our coffee from producers who pay their workers fairly and contribute to their communities.

Certified Fairtrade producers are generally cooperatives, giving workers a stake in the business and contributing to education, health and other community projects in their localities. Not all producers are cooperatives, and whilst not eligible for Fairtrade certification, do care about their workers. The Rainforest Alliance producers from Brazil, in addition to paying wages, provide workers and their families with accommodation, electricity, education and health care.

We have provided links to Fairtrade Australia and Rainforest Alliance for further information, but there is a world of information about ethical trading out there. Try googling for terms such as Fairtrade, ethical trading or sustainable business.
